Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 16% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

Great early eighties album by the Moody Blues where they are kind of, just hanging on to prog but also embracing the more 'radio friendly' soft rock approach. Despite the loss of Mike Pinder, oh master of the Mellotron, the keyboard corner still brings forth many layers of sound that blend seamlessly into the soundscape.
I reckon it's almost as good as the albums of the '67-'72 period. I felt "Gemini Dream" was an attempt to sound like ELO, who's popularity also persisted into the '80s. "The Voice" sounds like them modernized, without sounding too much like any particular new wave band. I thought when they did "Your Wildest Dreams", they went a bit soft though that album does also have the impressive "Rock 'n Roll Over You", used in Karate Kid II.
Nice come-back effort. "The Voice" is as a good a song as they've ever recorded.
Despite the loss of keyboardist Mike Pinder, this album proved to be the big Moodies comeback album that 1978's Octave failed to be. It has an updated sound, but loses none of the Moodies' creativity and it stands well alongside the group's earlier classic seven.
