Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.0/100, a mean average of 70.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.9.

One of my favorite Van Halen albums.
Definitely their hardest rocking effort since Fair Warning. They save their legacy (which was in danger) with this one.
They were doing something really weird here. Not like other Van Halen or any other artist really, but not too bad I guess..
Not bad at all. Tattoo, is great, but I don't think it's quite up there with their first four albums, but considering that most of the songs are based on demo's made in the late seventies you can understand why they came close to recapturing that early sound. . Very enjoyable.
A surprisingly good effort by Van Halen late in their career, if this is the note they end up going out on its a good one
'Tattoo' is actually quite charming. I'm no biker though.
Although the album stays good throughout with a couple of hits, this album carries that same lack of diversity that Van Halen is known for.
I wasn't really into rock like this until my boyfriend played me this album. I heard "Stay Frosty" and bought it that night.
The attitude David Lee Roth has about life makes me happy.
Against all odds, it's not only one of the best rock albums of 2012, it's Van Halen's best album since the blockbuster "1984."
Several tracks stand out as rock classics: "She's The Woman;" "Blood and Fire;" "As Is;" "Big River;" "You and Your Blues;" and the should've-been-the-album's closer, "Stay Frosty." None of the others, including the experimental "Honeybabysweetiedoll," are too far behind.
