Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.2/100, a mean average of 66.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.5.

Much less absorbing and incisive as their first record.

The mainstream popularity of Sleigh Bells has always confused me a bit. I would say now is probably the first time a noise rock band like Sleigh Bells has ever really been in the public’s eye. But perhaps that is the power of placing songs in commercials and movies. This album is slightly different than their last one, it’s actually less noisy. Only slightly though, enough to appese the noise rock fans but also enough to keep the people who like a little melody happy. The things Derek Miller can do with a guitar are quite impressive. He takes a bunch of guitars, throws in effects and cranks up the volume to 11 and really makes some interesting sounds. It’s quite a good album.

This album starts off with sleigh bells' version of a 80s hair metal crowd warmer before opening up into a typical sleigh bells riff and beat. It's a confusing open to an album that attempts a little tempo variety and loses rockin' appeal as a result. They don't even sound like their debut until track 3, "Crush". But "Crush" is also evidence of a slightly softer approach, placing the lead female vocalist up front more, swapping a maelstrom of energy for truer "songs".. Their last album "treats" was more of a non-stop rock romp with the coolest HS cheerleading squad (as pictured on the cover) you ever met. This album sounds like the lead cheerleader trying to branch out on her own, succeeding sometimes.

Their time is up. Last album was excellent though.

Overdone? Understatement of the year. Luckily that's not a hinderance here, as it's still an often lovely (yes, lovely) album... though a few songs are close to unbearable
