Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.3/100, a mean average of 74.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.0.

It may overstay its welcome, but the first ten tracks here would be an AOTY contender. Danse Caribe and Lusitania are particularly stunning.
This is exactly what you’d expect from Andrew Bird at this point. An interesting, well-arranged, well-written album. It’s a mix of folk rock and baroque pop and the marriage between the two is very happy and sounds excellent. Bird has a great voice and the instrumental arrangements on all of the songs are very well done and very interesting to listen to. There’s elements of catchy songs to the album as well as very interesting instrumentals, just a little bit of everything on this album. If you’ve never heard of Andrew Bird before, this wouldn’t be a bad place to start, though there are few of his albums that are.
Andrew Bird returns from portraying the muppets' "whistling caruso" reinvesting in folk (accompanied by a female vocalist who takes the lead in "lusitania"), losing some of the energy i've grown to love from "the mysterious production of eggs" album and on. The songs are pleasant with good melody, but "eyeoneye" is the only track that doesn't sound like an adult contemporary single b-side, and even that track is a bit light in the loafers. This guy has pumped out a huge catalogue of witty indie folk pop for many years and it sounds like he's taking a respite. (Maybe the muppets ruined him?? haha)
Close to greatness. A few trite songs keep it from getting there, but it's best moments are dang near transcendant
My first intro to Andrew Bird. Very nice retro-celty singing and songwriting. A sound that never gets old.
Solid, as usual.
Like a gentle boat ride. Although I'm not sure that is the right thing to write considering one of the songs subjects. It's still gentle though, comes in waves. Doesn't get inside the head but passes through pleasantly.
Well, I listened to this album and enough
I was pleased with this. It didn't immediately blow my mind, but as I listened and got I into it I really dug the atmosphere. And yeah Hole in the Ocean Floor is great.
best 2012 album so far!!
