Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.7/100, a mean average of 77.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

Nice, early 80s album, not as wild as their 70s work, but still instrumentals are decent.
I knew the Avalon Single from the time but had never really been into Ferry's suave delivery. However, I gave this album a listen soon after the For Your Pleasure from 73 (which I was really surprised with and loved) - and it doesn't quite stand up to that, it is however still pleasant and enjoyable. I really enjoyed India
I find this album to be a little bit bare at times and I always struggled to connect with some of the slower songs. With that being said when this record is good it is amazing. The highlights for me are More Than This and the title track both of which are very rich and enjoyable. There are a few other cuts after that which are good but then the rest for me feels like filler. I found myself being quite uninterested and very easily distracted when revisiting this album. It is quite repetitive and is lacking that edge to really get me behind the sound. Overall, this might be one of those records I am very wrong about but I just can't get into the music.
I think it's a sign of growing old that I like this album, which I can't imagine 15, 20 or even 30-year-old me saying.
Awesome final studio album before they disbanded. So glad I saw them live in '83 and again in '01; what a treat.
Álbum forte, com visão de futuro. Percebe-se elementos muito usados em bandas post-punk e de rock alternativo (como o U2 e o R.E.M - já citado por um colega)
One of the most positive Records ever ,No weak tracks here åt all .Perpaps one of the best records ever after all Radioheads amazing albums
Roxy Musics 8th and final studio in Avalon full stops their career on an absolute high note , I hate it when the greats go out with a whimper (I'm looking at you R.E.M)
As a child of the 80's Avalon was always there but I never really considered it a classic album until recently which of course it is . No bad track here , even the 2 instrumental tracks fit perfectly in rhythm with the over all album flow
As a side note the album cover features Brian Ferry's girlfriend wearing a medieval helmet and holding a Falcon whilst overlooking a lake in Ireland next to which much of the album was written , I only mention this as I always wondered where the cover originated , its rather beautiful IMO . Oh and Avalon continued Roxy Musics fetish to feature a woman on its album cover ("Roxy Music" 72 Tick , "For Your Pleasure" 73 Tick , "Stranded" 73 tick , "Country Life" 74 Tick Tick , "Siren" 75 Tick , "Viva Roxy Music" 77 Tick , "Manifesto" 79 Tick , "Flesh And Blood" 80 Tick Tick)
