Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 57.0/100, a mean average of 51.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 51.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 27.6.

Middle of Nowhere is the debut album from pop rock Tulsa OK trio Hanson. The album produced the international smash hit "Mmmbop" and launched the career of the three Hanson brothers, which would soon turn independent, curious enough.

This debut record is really slick and polished, perhaps slightly dated, but the material holds up well, straddling pop, pop rock, R&B and roots rock.

The record starts with the soulful rock of Thinking About You, leading into the iconic Mmmbop. Next is the charming and relatable ballad Weird and the bluesy Speechless. Next is the second single Where's the Love, the more miss-than-hit Yearbook, the funky Look at You and the folky Lucy. I Will Come to You is an excellent ballad and A Minute Without You is excellent pop rock. Madeline is a very catchy hidden gem. Last is the tender With You in Your Dreams.

The members are very young here, but there is an energy and charm in the production that still makes this one of Hanson's best records, guaranteed to make you smile.

Recommended.

I think a critical re-evaluation is due for this album to be honest. A lot of winners on here once you look past that it’s little kids performing them. Man from Milwaukee is great, even. Got weird looks when I bought it, worth it.

Good album. Best 10 songs average is 85,8/100 and the album can get good 85/100. Best songs are "MMMBop" and "Lucy" both 90/100, followed by "Where's the love", "Yearbook" and bonus-track "Man from Milwaukee" all 85/100. All other songs only just good 80/100.
