I actually first got to know "Viva la Vida" after buying the mini-album, "Prospekts March", which I found really nice. Especially songs like "Life in Technicolor II", "Glass of Water", "Rainy Day," "Lost" and the fine acoustic final number "Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground" were so strong that I also had to buy "Viva la Vida".
I knew, of course, the delicate title song, and it turned out that several numbers were repeats compared to "Prospekts March" - in different versions, though. "Life in Technicolor" is still a nice number, but I clearly prefer vocal version of "Prospekts March".
"Lost" is obviously a stand-out, but otherwise favorites are "Cemetaries of London", "Yes" and "Strawberry Hill", which in varying degrees seem inspired by the Velvet Underground.
The melodic "Reign of Love" which is tied together with "Lovers in Japan" is so such a strong song that I think it should have stood alone.
Another great album from Coldplay
This Album for me has no stand out tracks but sounds really good as an Album favourites Lost,Lovers In Japan,Yes
The first Coldplay album I really got into.
The title track just sounds bad, I don't understand why, but I think it's mixed differently or something, it dosen't have the same feel as the rest of the album. Don't get me wrong, the song is pretty good, I just think it could have been mixed/mastered in a better way than it was.
As for the rest of the album, it's fantastic. There are moments that are too poppy that keep me from rating this album higher, but almost every track is amazing.
Why is Yes rated so low? I don't like the (hidden?) track that comes afterwards, but the song itself is my second favourite Coldplay song after Violet Hill.
I really like a handful of songs on here, but overall it's as underwhelming as your average Coldplay album.
This album feels like your dancing through the magical lands that can be sonically possible thorugh this album's unique sound. It solidified Coldplay into one of the greatest bands who have surfaced the 2000s - if the previous three albums weren't enough to get your music buds into frantic rave mode while appearing alternative to your peers.
Really really good album. One of the best of the last 10 years.
My favorite Coldplay album!
All due respect to my love for Fleet Foxes, but come on realllllly, go back to 2008 and tell me this was not the number 1 album of that year.
I get that Coldplay is a dirty word but this is a fantastic album all the way through.
Great record all the way through. One of their best.
