Spiritualized's most perfect record, Ladies & Gentlemen encapsulates struggles through hopelessness, redemption, and the light at the end of the tunnel. Merging space rock with gospel, the album drifts between heavenly clouds, crashing thunder, hypnosis, broken heartedness, in a whirlwind of emotions.

A fluctuating wall of noise-guitar, bleating jazzy horn honks, passing instrumental journeys, evocations all from Elvis to Iggy to Pachelbel. An ambition, culmination of many musical ideas, that creates a singular altered state of psychedelic magnificence. Being far too densely hypnotic and involved to fit neatly into any one pigeonhole, this chemical enhanced album is a long-lasting high.

Greatest breakup album of all time, as far as I'm concerned.

The first time I listened to the title track it seemed like time stood still. That opener is one of the greatest and most beautiful tracks ever written, and the rest of the album holds many more great moments. Come Togethor, Electricity, I Think I'm In Love, and Broken Heart are all fantastic.

Brilliant. Every track in here is at least "good", what surely means something. The title track is one of the greatest tracks of the 90's surely, and Broken Heart really leaves my heart broken everytime i give it a listen. Spiritualized could have only done this album and still be considered a great great band. Thank You Guys

I agree with nowax jim. I too prefer Lazer Guided Melodies which I bought on its release. I saw Spiritualized at the Glastonbury festival in 1994 or 95 on the same stage as the Orb who I think headlined. Great times.

This is just such a beautiful album. Incredibly well orchestrated.

Best Tracks: Electricity, Come together.

I was lucky enough to see Spiritualized perform the majority of this beautiful LP at The Royal Albert Hall in 1997 - probably one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I still adore "Ladies & Gentlemen"... but not as much as "Lazer Guided Melodies", which is far more mellow, trippy, droney, dramatic and ethereal. I also find some of Jason's soul-bearing uncomfortable to listen to, and Cop Shoot Cop is 5 minutes too long (at least). Apart from that, it's a work of total genius.
