Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.4/100, a mean average of 72.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.9.

A bruised and battered Mayer retreated away from the tumult of celebrity life in the limelight after his notorious brush with Playboy to give us this introverted masterpiece.

People underestimate this man. Especially on this website. This is an excellent album.

I suppose it was inevitable that John Mayer would record a country album. Brought on by his inability to handle the fact that he can date famous women exclusively, John grew his hair long, grew a weird beard, and put on a hat. And then he recorded what is basically an acoustic album. I don't think Born and Raised will earn the title "Best John Mayer Album," but it is not without its charm. It's definitely better than his previous record, Battle Studies, which was recorded at the height of his model-banging hubris. This one has a vulnerability to it that's endearing.

I’m a big fan of when artists decide to go into a different direction with their music. I hate it when a band or a musician just stagnates and makes the same album over and over again. Well, I shouldn’t say I hate it, because I’m a big fan of some bands that do exactly that, but it’s really nice when an artist tries to go into a different direction. John Mayer does exactly that on this album. There’s still remnants of the sound of John Mayer that you’ve come to know, but this album is overall different. It’s like John Mayer meets Neil Young. It leans more towards the acoustic sound with a slight hint of country thrown in. It’s not nearly as poppy as some of his past albums have been. It’s a very good album and I think this will bring some new fans to John Mayer.

This is a quintessentially American album. I think it's clear by this point that Mayer is trying to make amends for his d-baggery in years past.

It has a lone cowboy feel to it and is pure of heart. you can't go wrong here. Neil Young was a major influence for this album and it shows.
