Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. It's OK. I have trouble figuring out this one - sometimes I think it's boring, sometimes I think I'm missing something.
Tier List for my preferences of the tracks on this album:
Top: 1, 2, 4, 8
High: 3, 5-7, 9, 10
Certainly not their best, but could be my favorite. Such a departure after 2 AOR hit albums. Weird and cool, a place in time. PLus one of the best opening lines of a song "I wanna shake like LaGuardia"
An interesting detour for The Cars. Instead of heading straight for the pop of Shake It Up and Heartbeat City, they went full-on New Wave here and the results are a mixed bag. What works, especially Gimme Some Slack, Touch and Go, Panorama, and Getting Through -- hell, the first half of the album -- is very, very good. The rest of the album is just there. It has its defenders and I wouldn't argue with them. There's just enough here to recommend.
