Jasonconfused 11/15/2012 22:38Dio's best solo work. No question about it. I still remember the first time I heard Rainbow in the Dark... I was hooked on Dio ever since. One of the greatest voices in Rock history and Vivian Campbell is a terribly underrated guitar player. Straight Through the Heart is another of my favorites.
Best solo album he did and good album overall. Has a couple of other good solo albums in the 80s as well, unfortunately a bit overlooked.
When a lot of rockers were turning to mainstream hair metal, Dio remained plain old hard metal... no compromise for the sake of the masses. Rainbow in the Dark is one of metals' best ever as is the entire album. Dio had several other albums of similar quality though this is his most acclaimed.
Masterpiece
GARYI like every song on this album. But I would say Heaven and Hell is better.
I liked the first two tracks a lot. Nothing wrong with the rest either. I would take both Rising and Heaven and Hell over this though.
And I,I'm darkness,I'm anger,I'm pain.I am master,the evil song you sing inside your brain.Drive you insane,don't talk.(from Don't Talk to Strangers)one of my all time favorite songs.It also has about the best vocal of any song I know of.I love the whole album.R.I.P. Ronnie.
Brilliant album, almost up until the end. The inclusion of the final track Shame on the Night is the only thing that keeps this from being a masterpiece. Strongest tracks are the two hit singles, but this is full of good solid 1980's heavy metal. Currently the #81 album ever made, and the 21st greatest metal album.
