Not as brilliant as, spirit of Eden, would be, still, the colour of spring, is a solid Talk Talk album with, life's what you make it, being the obvious standout. The rest isn't bad either, but I must admit I prefer the atmospheric intimacy of their next record. Still, very good.

The first rung on the ladder of increasingly sophisticated Talk Talk albums, occupying a cozy middle ground between synth-pop and experimentalism. If you're unfamiliar with this album, "Life's What You Make It" and "Give It Up" are great places to start exploring.

A melding of instruments and styles, it is an excellent album of finely crafted songs. An album that resonates with me.

Beautiful music, it heralds what is to come ("Spirit of Eden", "Laughing Stock") and with a religious undertone in Mark Hollis' lyrics:

"...They assemble, they pray
Take good care of what the priests say
'After death it's so much fun'
Little sheep don't let your feet stray
Happiness is easy
Joy be written upon the earth
And the sky above
Jesus star that shines so bright
Gather us in love..."

I put it on and the first track I was all like "Oh it's all like synthpop" but then this jangly guitar shit started bursting out with all this stand up bass and I was like "WWWWOOOOAAAHHHH" then all these kids started singing out of tune and I was like "WUT THEY OUT OF TUNE" but then I realized Talk Talk were awesome and probably intended that because they're really smart and shit so I was all like "WWWOOOAAAAH TTTAAALLLKKK TTAAALLKK" I was like banging my head as all this orchestration just started coming at me, coming at me just like bam, bam, bam all these drum machines kickin' out these sweet beats like damn those damn sweet beats I was turning that up till Mark Hollis' voice was like god speaking down to earth from heaven, blasting me a euphorial hit of baritone bliss like a strike of lightening from Zeus himself.

The rest was pretty good too.

I listened to this because it was in so many charts on the site. I did not really like it, but it can be really nice in places and the warped trumpet in the first track is brilliant.
