Good lyrics but it's really boring to listen to all the way through
Waters
I can't understand the criticism of this album. Sure it was basically all Roger at this point but that takes nothing away from this album, which I find to be a great concept album, with the title track and Gunners Dream being my favorite songs.
Better than I expected. Doesn't come close to their earlier stuff, but still not a bad listen.
This album is more like the first solo work of Roger Waters than the last of the classic line up of Pink Floyd. Most songs are very beautiful and heartfelt, although I think that Roger Waters exaggerates a bit in his style of "whispering-shouting-whispering" I don't like so much "Not Now John", which was selected as a single, but I think that "Southampton Dock" and "The Final Cut" are amongst Pink Floyd greatest songs.
Final Cut does sound more like a Waters solo record than a Pink Floyd record, but it's still a very good record, more consistently heartfelt and palatable than much of The Wall. (The Wall is great at times, but I don't think it holds up over four sides.) If Cut is a Waters solo record, it's also the only good one he made. He needs Gilmour more than he'd ever admit. "Not Now John" and the title song are the highlights, but "The Hero's Return," "The Gunner's Dream," and "One of the Few" are terrific as well.
Still decent work, but disappointing considering the talent in the lineup. They were becoming a one-man show, and his ego was out of control. Mediocre...
Wall leftovers, avg at best.
disagree on all counts with badfaith. I think this is an underrated Floyd album. Then again, I think DSOTM is way overrated. The Wall is by far their best, IMO. I can see why some people might find it dull and tedious, but it's much more engaging than DSOTM for me.
Regardless of what critics say, I like this album. Bit laid back from other Floyd work. Some great underrated ballads on here, most of which I would love to see other bands cover and try to make something out of...
