One of my favourite Morrissey albums - which I bought at the time of release in March 1988. However, I find the lyrical preoccupation of Bengali In Platforms troublesome and overall disagreeable.
There are few who can touch raw emotion like Morrisey can. He shows that quite well on this album, with tracks like Alsatian Cousin and Sunday. Not the Smiths of course, but not a bad solo effort either.
paladisiac 06/11/2012 16:09I agree that "Suedehead" and "Everyday Is Like Sunday" (especially) are 2 of the better tracks...at least on this album, a fine debut following the Smiths, mostly in the same devilishly witty and maudlin musical vein. (I also like "hairdresser on fire", incl. on the us version.)
Margaret on the Guillotine is so great, probably the most controversial song Morrissey have ever written.
Though Morrissey had clearly lost steam after the split from The Smiths, this still remains one of his best solo albums. "Suedehead" and "Everyday Is Like Sunday" are 2 of the better tracks of the decade.
