A different direction from U2 here but proved worth while 2nd best album to a 'Joshua Tree' alot more hits here though best tracks One,Real Thing,End of the World

The first two tracks are the weakest on the album. By "One" the album just takes off completely and never looks back.

2nd half is 10 times better than the first half in my opinion

Too many classic songs on this album to ignore. Not quite as good as Pop in my eyes but Real Thing, Wild Horses and Mysterious ways are top notch.

Nice to meet new sound

for me it is a sophisticated album with a good foray into electronic, indispensable for any fan

When U2 released "Achtung Baby" in 1991 it caught me off guard. What a departure from previous albums. It seemed so ahead of it's time. A extreme personality metamorphosis happened here. U2 radically shifted gears, picking up on different sounds and added it to their own. Not many bands survive this kind of re-invention. This album has denser layered production with more guitars effects. There is darker and personal lyrics on this sonic assault. Bono has described this album as “the sound of four men trying to chop down The Joshua Tree”.

... Eh? I mean most of the songs are above average in terms of quality, and even some fantastic ones. But it just kinda sounds hollow and lacks a little soul here and there.

There's a few moments of quality songwriting here but nowhere near enough to make the completely un-reciprocal beings of "U2" and "ironic dance-pop band" work in the slightest
