Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.9/100, a mean average of 78.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.8.

The heyday of prog-rock was coming to an ending, but Camel made their best album in 1975. Superb example of instrumental prog mastery
It's difficult for an entirely instrumental album to stay captivating throughout its entire runtime, but The Snow Goose does it. Masterful prog guitar and weaving themes all throughout. Never stays in one place too long and always has something worth checking out.
Like any long prog album (The Wall, Lamb Lies Down on Broadway), the Snow Goose is slightly bloated and has a couple of meandering tracks. But the maeat of this album on songs like Rhyader and Rhyader Goes to Town is undeniably great!
The concept is interesting and you can see what they are trying to achieve but for me it just doesn't work very well. A lot of the record does feel quite flat and a bit boring compared to their other releases. It is too slow and not really enough instrumental experimentation to keep the songs fresh making them feel repetitive. The ending is pretty poor as well and it really drags and I always find myself just waiting for the album to conclude. However, the first few tracks are pretty decent and I do enjoy them quite a lot but not enough to redeem the record. There are some good instrumental performances on here in places as well which gives you glimpses of their better releases. Overall, this record is just quite boring in my opinion especially when you look at their better records and how brilliantly crafted the prog music was on there.
I can't disagree with the running order on this page as it is in 2019 with Mirage at no 1, Moonmadness at no 2 and this one at no 3. I do like the album but like the other two a lot more. Still superb musicianship and a very progressive concept.
I like this album but I feel like tmbarnes. I think the pieces don't exactly fit. I am not a music expert so I cant' say why but there are parts (i.e second quarter, Flight of the show goose, ...) which I enjoy less. Still, the sweeping guitar melody, and the keyboard work is fantastic and the concept is nice.
Very immaculately produced, accessible instrumental prog. I can easily listen to this album all the way through, but the music is not quite as meaty or substantial as on the other two Camel classics. The album does feel like it almost falls flat towards the end, and I usually start to lose interest around Dunkirk. Still, good.
The second half of this album has a specific melancholy mood that I have never heard in any other music. It evokes a sense of loss without approaching any catharsis.
What's up with tracks 17-21?
My favorite progressive rock album!
