Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. I’ve noticed that a lot of progressive metal nowadays is just jazz guitar turned up really loud, especially instrumental progressive metal. That’s exactly what this is. This album is no different than a John McLaughlin or George Benson album, just turned up really loud. And it’s really good too. Guitarist Tosin Abasi has some real talent. I mean incredible talent and he shows it off here. This isn’t an album for the faint of heart, in fact I believe that this album was made for musicians to listen to, and jazz enthusiasts. But if you’re a fan of The Mars Volta or An Endless Sporadic, then this is an album for you. It can get a bit repetitive at times, but it’s good.
This is a very interesting album that combines heavy guitars and electronic music. This may sound dumb at first but they make it work amazingly. Definitely worth a listen.
