Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.3/100, a mean average of 75.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.8.

A very progressive and ahead of its time album that shocks me every time I listen to it and look at the release date. It doesn't belong in the 60's at all and is years ahead of its time with some of its experimentation and ideas. This is extremely impressive and deserves a lot of praise. When they get the combination right as well the music is very good and is enjoyable to listen to. However, in places it can sound a bit dated and slow whilst also feeling a little vacant at times. These ideas have definitely been built upon as well and have been perfected by other artists but this is one of the truly original electronic albums out there. Overall, the influence this has probably had is immeasurable which makes it a very important record but it does lack quality and there is quite a bit of room for improvement in my opinion.

Uh, so fantastic album, expecially if compared to the period, very innovative. For sure one of the inspirations for the future.

This came out in 1968. Just think about that for a second.

Without the vocals, it would have been amazing. I don't often say this kind of thing but here... The vocals really don't match, it's kind of sad. The vocals feels so much 1968, while the instrumental is a long way ahead of its time.

To my ears, this would be a LOT better, actually listenable rather than a curiosity, if it didn't have the vocals.

It's nothing more than a technologic curiosity from the 60s.
It sure is psychedelic and if you trip to it probably is a funny experience... but that's only the drugs doing their job.
The songs are very similar so some are almost good, like Velvet Cave, but others are just miserable.

Regardless of its mediocrity, I don't consider listening to it a waste of time.

Something fresh and original. It's almost like the LCD Sound System of the 1960s.

One of the best psychedelic albums of the late 60's. Listening to it, I can hear a lot of "Tago Mago" in it. Very impressive.

One of the most disorienting albums I've ever heard. Silver Apples' debut is a genuine psychedelic experience. It was far ahead of its time and remains fresh today.
