Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.8/100, a mean average of 76.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

My #5 by this band. Great album that deserves better here. Has some of their best/most popular hits. I can admit it's less consistent than my top 4 by them. "Si La Vie Vous Intéresse" is a choice cut that I highly recommend.
Les Cowboys again cover all of their favorite territory on this album.
We have a heavy dose of biting social and political commentary with 8 seconds, Plus Rien, Lettre a Levesque, Si La Vie Vous Intéresse, and the Epilogue. We have the deeply sentimental Cowboys (my favorite Cowboys) with some poignant tracks that touch on isolation, loss, nostalgia, and the fleeting nature of life with Les Etoiles Filantes, Hannah, Ces Temps-ci, and Ma Belle Sophie. And of course you get your fun drinking song with the Symphonie Pour Caza! All of this steeped in wonderful Quebecois language and imagery.
Here on La Grande-Messe we have Les Cowboys two most popular and defining tracks, and probably my two favorites, in Les Etoiles Filantes and Plus Rien. Si La Vie Vous Intéresse is also superb, and 8 seconds, Hannah, and Ma Belle Sophie were also standouts for me.
Though the lyrics are still engaging, the album is a bit uneven and slow-moving in the middle. The album really could have benefited by shaving about 15-20 minutes. Shish Taouk was a real low point and feels out of place as the follow-up to the touching Belle Sophie. That's Les Cowboys for you though. Never taking themselves too seriously!
I do love the musicianship of these guys, but I find their lyrics to be their strongest suit and it will be tough to fully appreciate this album without some background in French language and Quebecois culture.
Overall, an excellent listen with diverse sounds and subject matter and some real standout tracks.
Very diverse album
