Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.6/100, a mean average of 75.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.0.

not a bad album.. held back by 2 or 3 tracks that just tread water, lose those and you'd have a strong 40ish minute LP
Highlights; Caught By The River, Pounding, There Goes The Fear
Great album. No bad tracks. My favourite tracks are Pounding, Words and There Goes The Fear.
I really like the song Words, but the rest sounds just a little bit like generic indie rock to me. Good though, I really like the atmosphere on here.
The best Doves album. Last broadcast, is even better than debut, lost souls. Some great songs here, especially, satellites, which has got to be the Doves greatest song. An excellent album.
What makes this such a great album is the atmospherics produced. It captures a real sense of nostalgia when returning to listen to it these days.
They've made a good ending with Caught By The River.
The first Doves album I purchased on the Day of its release having seen them support 'Travis' knew what I was getting Good album best tracks 'There Goes The Fear,Words,Caught By The River'.
Pounding is so good. And of course There Goes The Fear!
I remember all the fuss about this album... but now I can't remember what it sounds like. What does that say?
Good but somewhere around the middle the album loses direction and becomes unengaging.
