Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.6/100, a mean average of 71.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.2.

Dog and Butterfly along with Little Queen really built Heart's reputation as a world class hard rock band, and there are many who think it's Heart's strongest album. This album was somewhat of a concept album back when albums had two sides, as the first side (Dog) contains the harder upbeat tunes while the second side (Butterfly) is made up of epic (read: long) acoustic folk ballads. The crown jewel on this album, and of Heart's entire catalog, is the final song "Mistral Wind", which begins like the other Butterfly tunes as a quiet acoustic ballad before reaching a metal explosion in the middle and coming back around to end where it started. "Mistral" epitomizes the dual sides of Heart like no other tune in their catalog. This was the last of Heart's classic albums featuring lead guitarist Roger Fisher who left during the tour. With Roger left a chunk of Heart's classic persona, leading to a trio of albums that sound unfocused in comparison. Although Heart still had chart success with the follow-up Bebe Le Strange, it wouldn't be until 1985's self titled move into hair metal and power ballads that Heart would regain it's status as a multi-platinum selling rock band.
Great release from Heart showing their range, being able to go from a straight up, in your face rocker like Straight On to the wonderfully sweet and introspective title cut. The Wilson Sisters done good here.
This is my favorite Heart album and I bought it when I was 15 years old when it came out in 1978. The songs were enchanting and emotional to me and it has stood the test of time and sounds fresh and undated to this day.
Curious about if the guitar is detuned a little bit for Mistral Wind?
This is the last good Heart record.
Certainly a favourite of mine. Great songs, ann Wilson's powerful vocals and Nancy with Nada one. Seductive voice has Nancy.
A haunting fairytale of a record. A pity that much of the Wilson sisters' proggy 70's output was overshadowed by their image-driven video releases from the 80's.
Best Track: Straight On
