Album feels like it has something which every other album by them doesn't. Ofcourse there are good Foo Fighters song here and there and you could argue they went onto better things which had greater appeal... still... feels like this has a little something which wasn't heard afterwards...
I know that the Foo made it big after this, but hell this is a kick-ass album and still my favourite.
I can't say this was a great debut for the band, but it was a good one. Most of the songs were generic, but the album has good songs too, and none of the songs suck.
Not bad but, not the best Foo album
Dave Grohl broke out from the confines of the Nirvana legacy with aplomb. His rebirth as an artist is the protoype for how to create your own identity outside of a band. This album is full of catchy, simple, yet skilled hard-rock. Well done.
This album took a lot of balls to release given the circumstances. Great Raw power and exploration into Grohl's morph into a singer/songwriter. Very talented man. The album itself is just raw and exciting, but in a melancholic way.
My favorite Foo album. I remember being surprised by how raw and great this was when I first got it.
Incredible debut by a one man band
This anticipates everything the Foos ever did and it gets bonus points for being the first album. At that time, no one ever thought we would hear anything more about or from Dave Grohl. The first three tracks are still unbeaten by anything they ever did in all the years later.
With Kurt gone, what would Grohl do? He created a lot of music himself during his stint in nirvana some of which he was hoping to pass by Kurt. This turned into the self-titled debut of foo fighters where Dave's basically a one-man show in this feedback-laden alt-rock tour-de-force. Grohl played nearly all of the instruments everywhere on this juggernaut.
