Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.8/100, a mean average of 75.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.7.

Ethereal and luscious - it's the that beautiful dream where you are floating through space and from which you never want to wake up! A delight for the ears!

Here’s the thing about dream pop. Dream pop can be either incredibly beautiful, enrapturing you in its sounds, the reverbed vocals, the synths, all of that (for a good example: see Beach House), or it can be boring. There’s a fine line between boring dream pop and really good dream pop because the entire concept behind dream pop is slow, ethereal sounds (hence the “dream" description of dream pop). Dream pop has the ability to captivate you and transport you to a different place, and it also, if not done well, has the ability to bore the crap out of you.

Now, Still Corners does dream pop relatively well, but not as well as they could. This album has potential, I could see Still Corners following in the footsteps of someone like Beach House and really doing dream pop well, but not on this album. There are some good moments for sure, but there are also quite a few moments where the album kind of stagnates, the music almost lulling you to sleep (and not in a good way). It’s a decent album, it’s almost there, but not completely.
