Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.1/100, a mean average of 66.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 66.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.3.

Definitely their weakest release. It's a bit too self-indulgent. I like Your Life Is a Lie and Alien Days. Rest is pretty forgettable.
1st song and last 3 are pretty good, but there are some songs in here that completely destroy the album for me. Weakest album by MGMT, 5/10.
I feel Congratulations struck a good balance between the "weird" and the "accessible". This one skewed too far into the weird end of things and I just couldnt get into it
A group with an imagination that's willing to take some musical chances. How refreshing!
Not really any bad tracks, but no legendary ones either.
I'm glad they're focusing more on the psychedelic genre rather than radio hits like Kids or Time to Pretend. This album is very experimental and hard to get into. After a few listens, this is definitely the worst out of the three albums they made. To me, the vocals sound too quiet and blend in with the background. This album focuses more on the sound and production which is pretty good on this album. I'd give this album a close 7.5/10
Best tracks: Alien Days, Mystery Disease, A Good Sadness
Good but not great. Experimental and somewhat memorable
This is a fun album and I like how dense it is, but too many songs are forgettable or just don't have a very strong replay value for me. An Orphan of Fortune and Mystery Disease are great though.
On a first listen, my impression is that this album is a lot more cohesive than their first two offerings. It gives the impression that their experimentation is finally leading somewhere, but it needs more time to sink in before I can say where.
Anyone who was nonplussed at how accessible their 'difficult' 2nd album was, well MGMT sounds like what they expected back in 2010. As far as I can make out there are, at the most, 4 or 5 proper pop songs here whilst the second half (except for Plenty Of Girls in the Sea) seems to be taken over by atmospheric, rhythmic, psych-electro pulses that seem to drift by.
Regardless, MGMT is a very brave step forward into the great unknown. Respect.
