Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Am so pleased to have picked this up a a vinyl re-issue. Very possibly one of the best pschedelic albums in my collection. Excellent production quality and sound. Egyptian Tomb and House Without Windows make the album for me, but no weak tracks as far as I am concerned.

This shares the same problems with a lot of the other little known psych rock albums of the time; poor fidelity (which I usually accept as being due to a poor digital transfer from a non-master source), so-so musicianship, and timid, forgettable vocal melodies which are most often delivered by an average vocalist. Those things are partly true for this album. But, it also has some stronger tracks that lend it merit. In particular, the final track, “At A Point Between Fate And Destiny”, has this smoldering, folky-yet-proto-proggy groove that I really, really enjoyed. In fact, that track will be seeing me again. Who knows, maybe some of the other tracks will catch me. “Trials Of A City” almost did.
Overall, I think I’d like this album more if it were the 70s and this was one of the 33 albums I owned on vinyl. It’s not that lucky. But, if you’re a fan of the genre...well, you probably have a better ear for it, anyways.
