Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.9/100, a mean average of 79.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.5.

B-side of this record is perfect. A-side bangs as well, especially If There's a Hell Below We're All Going to Go and We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue.

Great album! My only problem with this album is that the mood itself doesn't really change except for Move On Up.

While not every song moves me, the combination of groove and gravitas is compelling and transportational.

Extraordinarily well produced for an album from 1970. I don't know whether to group this with the feel-good pre-disco of Marvin Gaye, or the hard funk of Sly and Funkadelic. But since it is before both, I'll just say: this shit is good.

Incredible reporting on the world as seen from one black man's perspective, that transcended and opened the eyes of many in thw white establishment. A Peerless album - one of the best of all time.

The debut solo album from Mayfield continuing his social commentary on black America that he started with the Impressions. The sound is funkier than that of The Impressions but the song titles say it all - If There's a Hell Below We're All Gonna Go, Miss Black America & We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue. The best track however is Move On Up an edited version of which was a big hit in the U.K.

Another quality Curtis Mayfield record. Great songs as always, especially, if there's a hell below, miss black America, and off course, move on up. Still thrilling after all these years.
