It's unfortunate that this is publicly recognized as the pinnacle of reggae. It's a good record, and certainly has a lot of great tunes, but it's still just a compilation. MANY Bob Marley albums deserve to be recognized over this.

One of the greatest artists of all time - this CD shows why.
This is the place to start for those not familiar with Bob Marley. It really only scratches the surface of his incredible body of work. But for a greatest hits package, its a classic. I really only listen to his regular albums now but I played this into the dirt when I first discovered it before I heard any of his studio records.
Required listening for anyone interested in Reggae. This is a great starting point to spring into other reggae artists rather an ending point. Nearly every song is simple yet insightful nit to mention catchy. Still I don't put comps in my best-of lists.

MagentaNot a big fan of the compilation album and don't think this is a patch on Exodus. I also tend to agree with the comments about this being the acceptable face of Reggae. However there are some great songs on here and Bob Marley is an amazing artist so struggle to dis the album completely. Try Exodus first...
I trashed the album for one reason, it seems that Legend is where 95% of the buying public stops when exploring Reggae. The album is a 100, if taken as a sum of it's parts. But if you HAVE to recommend a greatest type album why not Babylon By Bus, or Live! If there were non-album singles on Legend, like on The Who's Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy then yes, I would ABSOLUTELY start here. But that not being the case, I recommend Catch a Fire, Burnin' and Exodus as your jump points. Forget this album exists.
Bob Marley's song's are so simplistic, yet beautiful, and it really shows in this album
