Sembra una favola la vita di Ted Hawkins, solo che non c'è il lieto fine. Suona e canta nei locali finchè viene notato, già maturo, ed arriva ad incidere un disco che ben presto si dimenticano tutti, cosicchè deve ritornare a fare la vita di prima ( compreso il lustrascarpe ). Poi a metà anni novanta viene riscoperto e stavolta sembra che la ruota abbia iniziato a girare per il verso giusto, visto che il nuovo disco, "The next hundred years", vende bene… E invece Ted Hawkins muore dopo pochi mesi dall'uscita di questo disco; che è un soul misto blues misto rock che sembra un genere a se stante, con canzoni bellissime che io dopo vent'anni - magra consolazione per lui - non ho mai dimenticato.
