Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.2/100, a mean average of 76.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

I don't know when people started talking about a "Ditch Trilogy," but those are three very different albums. And they're no more ditch-y than Zuma or Stars and Bars or even Rust Never Sleeps, for that matter. It's not disparaging this album, which does have a certain something (I remember back in the day, in a very very altered state, thinking it was speaking right to me...I'm not reacting to my first or second or twentieth listen), to state the plain fact that it isn't anywhere near the same level as the other two that it's getting lumped in with, one of which is an actual masterpiece. I think of Don't Be Denied as a low point, just not my taste at all, but some of the other tracks like the opener, LA, and of course Last Dance are some pretty good loosey-goosey Neil to my ears. But only pretty good, there is a lot better to be found elsewhere. I'll take this over Harvest any day, but it's not a great album by any stretch.
The beginning of the famed Ditch Trilogy. Time Fades Away is definitely the weakest link in the chain. It’s not the worst thing ever like Neil Young seemed to think (he pretty much denies the existence of this album), it just doesn’t work as well as the other entries in the trilogy.
I consider this to be a pretty ballsy record for Neil Young. He rebounded after a commercial smash with a live album of new material. I know its not one of Neil's personal favorites and its probably the weakest of the "Ditch trilogy" but its still a great album.
A live album of new material that documents a time whereby N.Y was at war with his band as well as his audience who wanted 'Harvest' and instead got .... this
A third of the Ditch trilogy and an essential album for rock fans
A great record a true Neil Young classic.

An all time classic, as well as the beginning of the so-called "Ditch Trilogy" along with On The Beach, and Tonight's The Night, which are classics also. All are HIGHLY recommended.
Needs a proper release. Great album.
the only neil young album not on CD........raw, unfiltered young. one of the genre's best-ever autobiographical songs is "don't be denied."
