Great summary, Yourselfisntsteam. This is my favourite Can album.
While I have to give Tago Mago and Ege Bamyasi at least one more listen, I still think that this album is better than both. Future Days (the song) is really sth special. I can't quite explain it, but I've listened to that song about 20 times today
With 'Future Days' the 'Can sound' is more restrained and methodical then their previous two classic albums. Here the atmosphere is more a mixture of pastoral and oriental tinged ambient electronics and jazz elements than the funkier tribal overtones of say, Tago Mago. The ambience of a couple of the tracks is similar in part to the work of the Grateful Dead as one is lulled into a trance like state. Certainly, the album works on a deep psychological level. Can are one of the most influential bands in the history of rock having pioneered industrial music, noise-rock, trip-hop and post-rock. Key track: Bel Air.
So ahead of its time, It is amazing how 4 songs can be so amzing and fundemantal to the music of the next 40 years. Simply beautiful...
A warm summer day, with a slight breeze, buzzing insects, and an oriental scent in the air. That is why "Future Days" exists.
