Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.1/100, a mean average of 77.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.2.

The more I hear of destroyer the more obvious it is to me that he's one of the most underrated artists on this site.

A totally different kettle of fish from the sleazy, easy-listening/New Order feel of Kaputt and Ken (my introductions to Dan) but still a brilliant, dense listen that offers you slightly more each time you dive in.

Dense, dramatic and complex. Incredible album! I'd highly recommend, at the very least, giving it a listen.

The full-band approach is phenomenal and the venture into chamber pop is magnificent.

An epic masterwork - gorgeous melodies and chord progressions, ambitious and indiosyncratic arrangements and truly poetic and vivid lyrics - this is up there with the very best

While my tastes generally synchronize with BEA's, in some occasions I find we divulge, and this seems to be the case now. This album is magnificent (as well as Kaputt), and seems to be, in my opinion, just as strong as any of Radiohead's best work. Bejar sings with a dynamic fervor that easily carries the listener through the album from start to finish, with no real bumps on the journey, save for maybe 3000 flowers. This album deserves at least an 85 here. Personally, I'd give it a 95.

Interesting that charters/rankers here prefer Kaputt. That's an intriguing melding of influences, but this one's pure gold. Lively imagery, sharp humor, and a creative knack for melody. His best.

Really solid album. His freewheelin' style of writing is at times ingenious and at times a little over the top. The music is strangely symbiotic to the lyrical style, sort of loose and volatile and swinging one direction than another. Really good strong points. Reminiscent, to me at least and for some strange reason, of "Horses" by Patti Smith.
