Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.9/100, a mean average of 77.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.7.

This is a very consistent album where every song is good and they all have aspects which are impressive and show what is to come in the future. To open the record we get Father Cannot Yell which is probably my favourite track on the record as it is the one which always pulls me back to it. The vocals on this track and the rest of the album are very strong in my opinion and they have this raw edge to them which makes them very unique. They make songs like You Doo Right sound fantastic. Backing the voice up is the instrumentation which is strong and some of the guitar solos we get are brilliant. I am also a huge fan of the drums on the closing track as it is vibrant and very fun. However, the record does feel a bit plain and is missing the experimentation that CAN will demonstrate on future projects. It does get quite repetitive by the end and the main thing this record makes me want to do is to go and listen to their better albums. Overall, this is a good start and you can see the beginnings of a fantastic band but there is better CAN albums out there.

I think it's a good sign when you can say that you have regarded each track of the album as the best of the lot at different points.

Can's discography has a shaky yet consistent beginning. Monster Movie pales in comparison to their later works, but it's still a fine enough album.

A particularly tumultuous debut. Very good actually, but their best moments were yet to come.

It sounds a little odd this album after being so familiar with their work that came after this. The vocals aren't great, but in some ways that's the charm of it. It's a decent little album, but the best was certainly to come.

Sounds like a bunch of artsy musicians who have yet to really find the style that would make them such a great and influential band. Malcolm is alright (on "Yoo Doo Right" he can get annoying though), but Damo is far more interesting.

Very impressive debut from Can. Even greater things were to come from this band, but nonetheless this still remains an utterly distinctive ruckus ahead of its time. Repetition has never felt so good.

Mary, Mary So Contrary is solid.

Somehow I thought of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 the whole time I listened to the first track. It was almost like they watched a band movie, and then reacted to it with their instruments.

First time listening to Can. Glad there are better albums for me to check out.

"You Doo Right" is one of the grooviest sounds I've heard. The influence of this album can still be felt.

The music is all cool and bouncy. On the last track the singer could do with some cough sweets. Sounds like a very sore throat!
