Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.7/100, a mean average of 73.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

This is a roots album of a very particular kind, and it is wonderful.
Very fun, if non-essential album by Billy.
Billy Joel taking us back in time!
Billy does Motown, doo wop and the other styles of influence. Patchy, but worth it for the great songs.
Somehow it doesn't sound the same as it did 34 years ago. It too, was one of my first cassette purchases.
Think I bought this and Afterburner on the same day.
Anyways, still Keeping the Faith, Billy.
START THE FIRE, BUDDY! come on, man, play something from "The Stranger!"
we strictly do 80's joel music, sir.
80's billy joel doo-wop sucks!
I SAID WE ONLY DO 80'S JOEL, SO TAKE YOUR SK*** H**KER WIFE AND GET THE F*** OUT OF HERE!
Joel's homage to pre-Beatles pop music, including rock'n'roll and doo wop. It kicks off with one of the album's best tracks, easy money, a brilliant rock/soul hybrid. Other standouts on this enjoyable record are, keeping the faith, leave a tender moment alone, and the amazing acapella, the longest time. The title track is also great, as are the two massive singles taken from the album. Tell her about it, and the Frankie Valli inspired, uptown girl, are timeless pop songs. The rest is fine. Careless talk is nice, and Christie Lee is ok, and although , this night, with the chorus written at least musically by Beethoven, really nothing more than pleasant filler, it's still fun enough to pass a few minutes by. It's a good album, a great party album really. Good stuff.
First album I ever bought new as a kid.
I love Billy Joel--and I noticed this is sort of lower on the "best" list than I would put it, but I suspect that has something to do with the reviewers' ages. I was 10 when I bought this album. I was familiar with Billy Joel from radio airplay and the singles my older sister had (and I got as hand-me-downs, and still own to this day), and I enjoy listening to any era of his music. I have his entire discography on LP (except River of Dreams and Fantasies & Delusions on CD) but no album brings back more memories and makes me feel as good as An Innocent Man. I think age of exposure has a lot to do in general with how we perceive music and how it endures throughout our lives as a favorite. That's why this would be at the top of my Billy Joel list.
His last great album. It has a bunch of songs I remember hearing on the radio when I was a kid.
Possibly Joel's finest album ever song is one hit after the other. I really like this album because Uptown Girl was the first single I ever bought as a kid
