Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.6/100, a mean average of 71.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.4.

Strange how tastes can be different. I'm also a fan of most of the Sloan albums (in particular of their first two but I also really like the new 2018 album) but this one I like the least. I just think it's not as catchy as most of the other ones.
Fisrt, it's important to state that to me, Sloan has never produced a bad record in their 12 album discography. I own them all and love them all in one way or another. However, some of their albums stand out of the pack and Navy Blues is definitely one those extra special albums. In fact, it is my favorite in their discography. I think it is the quintessential Sloan album, representing everything this band is. A must-have in their discography, along with "Between The Bridges", "Never Hear The End Of It" and "Twice Removed".
The consistently of pop song writing is only equaled by the Beatles... these guys never got the attention they deserved.
Possibly Sloan's heaviest album. While I love Patrick's power pop, and here he has his signature song, "Money City Maniacs", this was the album where Andrew Scott truly shines. "Sinking Ships", "Seems So Heavy", and "On The Horizon" are the three best tracks, all penned by Scott.
Proved Sloan weren't just a mythological band that got dropped by Geffen.
I think I need to change my chart. This album is EPIC. It rolls between tracks flawlessly, and you slip away into a happy, rollicking world. Great hooks, great riffs, great melodies. This is Sloan's best, and one of the top albums from the mid-90s. A great antithesis to the wanna-be grunge of the day.
My least fav Sloan of the 90's.
