Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.1/100, a mean average of 76.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.1.

Really love this band's sound. They're similar to Tool and heavy Porcupine Tree. A great follow-up to Themata. My highlights are Simple Boy, Set Fire To The Hive and All I Know.
A sadly underrated album and band. The band members have some serious chemistry, and it is heard at its best on this album. The way they groove is absolutely outstanding. That being said, there seems to be a slight disconnect between the instrumentalists and the vocalist in terms of this chemistry: Ian does a brilliant job and brings a new element to a fairly defined style, but at times it feels as though he sings “over” the music, rather than with it. I love the bass tones throughout the album; the bass really drives the jam. Goliath is an exceptional example, as is New Day.
This album is very emotional, melodic, beautiful, and at times heavy. It truly is a shame that Karnivool aren’t more widely recognised. Fans of Tool may enjoy this band and album.
Highlights: Goliath, Umbra, Change
I really wish this album got more attention. The concept behind "Sound Awake" is one of my favorites and the musicianship is top notch. In my opinion it's the best album of 2009.
This album is nearly flawless.
It just needs more guitar solos. It'd be perfect then.
This little-known Australian prog-metal band shows some tenacity on an album that really should be more widely recognised but unfortunately isn't. Those who like their-music short and straight-to-the-point should stay far away, but those who enjoy getting lost in their musical journey as well as heavy chord and riff progressions should give it a go. The lead singer's far-reaching vocals compliment the album's scenery incredibly well.
Well I've had a good time. Those big tracks at the end did manage to keep my attention and the rest was a thunder storm of fun. I have listened to a lot of Porcupine Tree these last few months and I can see why people who like one may like the other.
