Really solid debut (effectively - there is an earlier album but Berry himself has dismissed it as "not good enough", and it can't be found online or on physical media formats). Catchy tunes, killer musicianship, and a pretty consistent tracklist with only a few songs here or there that don't really hit the mark. Conceptual flourishes like the weird spoken word pieces and the recurrence of songs and melodic motifs give a great sense of cohesion. Berry's lyrics are not the best, but they're not terrible, and the atmosphere he conjures is so damn effective that it ends up not mattering too much. Really underrated record from an underappreciated musician - though of course, he has a big following for his acting; I'm talking only about his music career when I call him underappreciated.
