Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.7/100, a mean average of 70.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.3.

Not outstanding in their catalogue but still a rather charming release and, I think, a little underrated round here.
They pull off a few new tricks nicely, even if the album as a whole isn't a truly exciting installment. Good for fans of B and S at the very least.
Similar to, write about love. It's poppy and campy and the songs are okay, but like the previous record, something's missing. It all goes by without ever really dragging you in, and it is way overlong. Like, write, it's competent, but so what? It's clear that Stuart Murdoch isn't totally focused on Belle and Sebastian these days. I hope i'm wrong, but I honestly feel B&S are past their best. Again, like, write about love, so-so.
This is where I first listened to Belle and Sebastian, and while it's definitely one of their weaker records, it's worth a listen in my personal opinion.
Perfect start to the album with the amazing song 'Nobody's Empire'. The rest of the album is decent but does not meet the standard set by the first song - some of the songs drag on a bit too long.
This album does run a little long but that may be the only thing wrong here. Storytelling remains a high point and, two decades into their career, turn out another fantastic album.
This is not one of the best albums of all time but it is the album I have gone to much more than any other recorded in 2015 so far along with My Morning Jacket's The Waterfall.
This sounds way to much like a Fun record. It's not bad, but it's just unadventurous pop music. I think if it was by any other artist, most people wouldn't even have given it the time of day. A good listen for Belle and Sebastian fans but relatively underwhelming. It's fun, disposable background music. I do, however, like that the band is going outside of their comfort zone on this one.

It's an ok album, stretches way too long. They could have cut out at least 20 min of filler moments. But probably my biggest disappointment it's the lack of amazing moments in this album. "Nobody's Empire" is the only great song in here, the rest is just pretty much average, with some good melodies every now and then.
The conclusion: In the future when you want to listen to a B&S album, this album will probably fall in your 7th or 8th pick.
First listen, as I always explore anything in the top ten by March. This is upbeat quirky pop and it's making me smile.
I will definitely return to this again
