Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 72.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

It is my third favourite Lennon album. Musically it is his most pop like album, lyrically it is on the weak side. Not on the same level as his first two albums.
I like this album. Mind Games and Out of the Blue are two of my favourite Lennon songs. However, I can take a step back and recognise its mediocre overall compared to The Beatles output and his earlier (non experimental) albums. After the poor Some Time in New York City , it’s clear Lennon was trying to win back some of the fans he’d lost. Half the songs are good , half are just average by his high standards.
"Mind Games" is as much as an anthem as "Imagine", maybe even better. "Out of the Blue" is another superb and emotional Lennon song. The rest of the album though is just ok.
I don't understand why this is so poorly rated. This is probably my 3rd favorite John Lennon solo album, outside of Plastic Ono Band and Imagine.
A couple of good songs (mind games, out the blue, aisumasen and one day), the rest goes from average to a couple of mediocre ones.
On this album one can literally feel the man's stress and how he crawls in self pity.
I am a big john lennon fan but this feels as though he ran out of inspiration. I only like aisumasen which is underated.
Easy to overlook... for good reason.
Not his best album but the title track along with Freda People and Intuition are really good.Out of the Blue and You are Here are better than the rest, but as a whole not a great album.

Nothing truly bad here, but just far too many generic slow ballads.
Tight A$ and Meat City are good rockers off the album and they help with the pacing. Bring on the Lucie (Freda People) isn't quite as good as those for me, but it's alright. One Day (At a Time) is probably the best song off the album, and one of John's best songs altogether...really a very pretty song. And Out of the Blue is pretty good, but other than those, nothing else really stands out as Lennon's A-material.
