Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.2/100, a mean average of 74.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.9.

Bowie has gone for a story here but I haven't really bought into it to be honest - but take away all those bits and we have some pretty seriously good songs that grow on me more and more. I was always there with I Have Not Been To Oxford Town - with echos of the Low era. I always enjoyed the sweeping Thru' These Architects Eyes and Strangers When We Meet too. Then grew into Outside, The Hearts Filthy Lesson, Hallo Spaceboy and We Prick You.
One day I will listen to this album without the Segues

I don't think this is a bad album whatsoever, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe upon relistens I'll like it more.

What you have to love about Bowie is that he never stood still, always trying something new. This is a great album (except the annoying 'comic' interludes.

Top tier Bowie, incredibly underrated. I’m only taking off 5 points as a technicality. Easily his best of the 90s

I don´t understand why critics don´t use to talk about this album as one of the best of his career. It is his most ambitious, complex, conceptual, interesting and longest album.
I really think it's one of his 5 greatest masterpieces.

A good album from an unstable Bowie's era, produced by Brian Eno.

A Small Plot of Land and I'm Deranged are tremendously good songs!
