Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 11% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.8/100, a mean average of 75.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.9.

Ex (pre Lindy) Go-Between Peter Milton emerges from a looooong hiatus to deliver a devastatingly sad break up album generally regarded as a modern Australian masterpiece
“Oh the trees there are so tall now
They were planted when your first child was born
The swings in the yard are still there now
But the child and the flowers are gone”
From ‘The House That We Once Lived In’
Further proof that Australian bands are well worth a listen. Distinctive, heartbreaking, profoundly beautiful.
"I've been stuck in the same quicksand since 1999... stuck in the same quicksand. The snow was falling on Broadway, and I promised you that one day I'd take you away to New York. Whatever happened to the promise? Whatever happened to the time? It ran out, but I thought I'd see you at 21."
One of the most beautiful and heartbreaking albums I've heard.
One of those bands I didn't really know before so I'm sorry I didn't listen to it before because this is a gem of an album. This is in fact one the singer wrote after the death of his son and the grief is palpable in all tracks (the lyrics but also the fact that his voice seems bound to break any minute) but in some way it also sounds very hopeful. And of course this makes me want to discover their earlier albums.
Australian Destroyer (Dan Bejar with a band and a female back vocal) here. Again, nothing new and original here...
