Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

A wide ranging fusion of psychedelia, jazz, and krautrock to create something truly unique, even in the massive KGLW canon. The River is particularly successful in this regard; it's a quality arrangement and vibe so smooth and slinky that they would chop it up and repurpose it for Nonagon Infinity a year later (Wah Wah), and it would have been a waste not to do so. Although it's Side A partner Infinite Rise can't be accused of this (featuring about 100 so-nonsensical-it's-good rhymes: Playwright/Blindsight/Before/Bed sore/Deep grill/Sit still/I'll cook/Big chook") almost as if The River at 10 minute, 10 seconds still wasn't done saying what it wanted to say. In fact, all the songs are 10:10 in keeping with the loose "concept," but a lot of the songs cheat by fading out into ambience near the end to make it work. As a result, the album is best heard as a whole piece, not a bunch of individual songs, as is often the nature with Gizz. Pair with roast beef and jazz potatoes.
A fun change of pace for the band, with yet another fresh and original concept. The unmistakable beauty of The River is an effort that only King Gizzard can produce in such a beautiful and unique way.
