Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.3/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.7.

Well I guess it's my favourite Deafheaven. And I love both Sunbather and Ordinary Corrupt Human Love (and Roads to Judah to a degree), it's just that this one doesn't have any interlude tracks unlike the other 2. 100% substance. Strange considering that I almost always love interlude tracks on albums, but it is what it is. A masterpiece
The closing track is definitely the most interesting.

So I'm going reverse chronological order ever since I heard there recent album. And I also love this album as well. The more I listen to Deafheaven the more I realize that they share similar mindsets to Porcupine Tree where they blend both mellow and hard as nails instrumentation. Damn I got to go back to Porcupine Tree. But yeah these guys are becoming a personal favorite of mine.
Proggier than Sunbather, I prefer this one. 7.6/10.
Not as captivating and monolithic as Sunbather, but still a very interesting work
Not Sunbather but bloody good regardless .
Look at all the 60/100s! Looks like a bunch of people saw Fantano's review and just gave it the same score. That's disappointing because this is an incredible album that just misses the heights set out by Sunbather.
An excellent follow-up to Sunbather.
Wow, I guess I'm trying to hard to get into black metal.
Attractive, wavy follow-up to sunbather- not so much intertwining the genre flames as it did on previous releases but rather splashing them all at different corners of the canvas, with very little overlap. Not as engaging or attention-perking as Sunbather, but a lovely, solid follow-up nonetheless.
