by far the greatest debut album of all time.
Very keyboard-based mixed with the blues. Jim Morrison's best.
One of the best pop albums ever released. Morrison's detached persona would be a massive influence on rock n roll wild men for decade's to come. These guys were the first to prove that acid tripping misfits could have a pop hit.
I love their sound. No other band sounds like The Doors and this is their best album by some distance. Some songs sound average if listened to on their own but listened to as an album they all make sense. The Crystal Ship and Take It As It Comes stand out with the other more well known songs.
Possibly the best debut album of all time
A great debut. But like many of their records, it's a bit spotty. The great songs make up for the filler, but it's far from perfect. The more I listen, the more I wonder why people worship Morrison as a lyricist. He's no Leonard Cohen.
Yes, agree with below comment. Best debut album of all time and my 3rd favourite album of all time. The Doors are my favourite band of all time. Incredibly current sound for a band in the late sixties. As is demonstrated by the way you alwasys here the Doors in film's or just randomly around the place. Far more so than The Beatles. Fierce album. The instrumental in the middle of Light My Fire and The End in its entirety the big highlights for me. If you like The Doors and have not heard their live stuff, get it. Absolutely Live, Alive She Cried or In Concert which includes these 2 and Live at the Hollywood Bowl.
Obviously the best debut album of all time
I'm just not a big fan of the album in its entirety.
It's dark and mysterious. It's shattered glass beneath the boot. Keeps the giving and the wanting with a lovely guitar sound. Makes me feel sophisticated when I put this on yet I have no idea how such a thing is possible. Some songs he is practically bawling at the listener. Then again I like the shouting on an album.
