Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.2/100, a mean average of 69.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.9.

Divertido, esperto e nostálgico. Um belo álbum pop!
This is my favorite No Doubt album, really the pinnacle of all of their talents (especially songwriting). Running is fantastic
Gwen Stefani has rock star talent, but this music just falls flat. It's really, really obvious when Ray Ocasek and Prince come to produce, because the band just completely surrenders every musical direction to them- which is just lame.
I saw them tour this record and they just played the hits off of it, and it actually was quite a fun show, but yeah... this album is total fluff.
I will say I respected the change of their sound and pushing themselves in a different direction (which was kind of cool at the time, but looking back No Doubt is totally a pop band).
Rock Steady trades in rock for summer electric light pop. No Doubt goes all in on what is popular alienating their original fans of Ska and upbeat rock.
It worked in an odd way. The singles were very popular but they found themselves in no man's land around new fans who couldn't get into their earlier music and loyal fans who weren't digging the new direction.
The band would breakup after this and Stefani--the only real show and talent here anyway--goes big solo.
As a big fan of Tragic Kingdom and a little fan of Return to Saturn---I jumped off the bandwagon at Rock Steady. It didn't rock steady at all.
Barely a band at this point, Rock Steady is the launching pad for Stefani to set trends in fashion and popular music for a couple years.
Gwen Stefani's style is unique and helps make this a great album.
The first half is quite a bit better than the second. "Hella Good" and "Underneath it All" are the highlights.
Way more fun when these guys were playing uptempo pop rockers. The ballads fall flat.
Great funky, punky beats throughout the whole album. Grossly underrated IMO
