Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

actually gravedee, this is indeed music and it's not novelty music either ! I believe this intriguing experiment pays off handsomely.
Strange idea, better than expected execution. Some bangers on here and it's no doubt a very creative vision, but it feels like it's an album that's unique yet lacking in real depth. I'm not quite sure if this is something that people would want to listen to repeatedly... still, I'm glad someone made an album entirely out of washing machine sounds.
This isn't even music. It's more like an album full of sound effects. Do people actually buy and listen to this kind of stuff, other than for novelty purposes?
I'm conflicted here. I find this album to be insanely creative and Matmos deserves major props. That said, I can't say I especially like the album all that much.
This is yet another reason to regret that I always buy the cheapest washing machine.
