Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.0/100, a mean average of 74.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

It has some highlights though I wouldn't call it one of his best. Overall I agree it's one of his finest between Scary Monsters and Blackstar.
I'm really surprised to see how little attention this album has received compared to many other Bowie albums. For me, this one is almost as good as Blackstar. It is very consistent, filled with great musicianship and originality and still definitely Bowie. A great album, one of Bowie's best if you ask me (his fourth best if you really want to know).
Sunday, I Would Be Your Slave and A Better Future are the real highlights here.
But every song is either good, great or juste plain amazing, except maybe Everyone Says Hi (which is weirdly the highest rated track here, I don't get it).
For me, Bowie's best album since "Let's Dance" 18 years prior.
Best song(s): Slow Burn; Afraid; I've Been Waiting for You
I Don't understand how this album is rated so low. the lowest song is ranked at 77 but the album is 75? This is one of Bowie's best, pleasantly surprised with the record coming off this late 80's and 90's albums.
Very underrated Bowie album. One of his best.
A more somber and mature album it has some very strong songs such as Sunday, Slow Burn & Afraid. You have to be in the right mood for it but it’s a grower.
Has there been a better album produced by someone in their 50s? If so, it's probably one of Bowie's others. Sunday, what an opener. Then a cover of the great Frank Black's Cactus, and a great cover too. The beautiful Slip Away; I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spacecraft; Everyone Says Hi. This is packed with wonderful tracks. I love it.
A strong record.
In my opinion, Heathen is the best Bowie album between Scary monsters and Blackstar. It includes some of Bowie's best writing for years and it doesn't sound like he's trying too hard either, like he does on Earthling and Outside. A fine album with some fine songs.
