Revisited Broken Bells recently, when I was going through a whole Danger Mouse walkthrough thing. I think it's actually aging pretty well. My initial opinion a couple of years ago was that despite my wanting to be attached to it, it really has a case of the wallpaper and the samey wameys and I eventually just moved on. So I came back just now and there's actually a lot to pull from this record. It's mainly agreed that The High Road was a top tier song. The Ghost Inside is almost a throwback to Demon Days era Gorillaz. Finally, the closing two songs work so well together and seems to have been the seed to his later LP Rome. Still a lot of filler I suppose, but I liked it again enough to bump it up a few places.

Mainly boring. The first song is excellent, though.

It's not fabulous album but it's ok. You can listen to it from time to time but without big emotions.

There are a few good songs on this album. Overall the album is okay. I think what hurts this album the most are all of the Shins comparisons. Is this band as good as The Shins? No. Will Broken Bells ever be as good as The Shins? That is still to be seen. I'm still waiting for whatever is next before I make a final decision. All in all though, I would say go ahead and buy this album, it is pretty good especially for a debut album. Just do me a favor and don't expect it to be better than any of The Shins albums because it probably isn't.

Great vocals and fabulous melodies. One of my top 10 of the 2010s.

The concept feels uneven but in the precise moment when it achieves expectations it is masterful like in the two first tracks and the two last ones, in general it is a great effort and Mongrel Heart is a bizarre and delightful experience. Mr Mercer, bring back the f***ing Shins!!!

this album is a real step out of the box for danger mouse he really took a big risk in participating and i feel like his presence is felt. i do however think that this is more of a miss than a hit for the producer. as stated earlier there are like 4 good tracks among an otherwise forgettable album.

I don't know if the purpose is to put a sound background up and let it run for 37 minutes and 27 seconds without hardly changing at all. If it is this is a big success, if it is not there are three pretty good tracks but in general a rather uninteresting album. Not bad, not very good.
