Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.3/100, a mean average of 68.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.9.

The drumming in this album hits you like a wall. The record as a whole is epic and feels like you just sat through a movie or a play. Beautiful yet haunting work of art; These New Puritans is very overlooked in general.

Favorite Tracks: We Want War, Three Thousand, Attack Music
The band challenge themselves to produce something massive. They just about pull it off. We Want War is an amazing tune. You can buy this album as a book with all the music written out for you.
Absolutely fantastic! I have nothing in my collection like this so far! This is the music I am looking for and I'm sure it will only get better on further listens. From We Want War I knew I was onto something special and it holds up as a very good album all the way throughout. Well deserved the praise it received. I enjoyed it a lot.
We Want War & Orion are the only tracks I can see myself listening to again. Weird album. A mixture of world, classical, indie rock, & post-punk. At times I also hear the Radiohead influence, which probably played a large part while recording this album.
It took me three listens before it all fell into place. This is a modern masterpiece.
NME Best album of 2010. Still haven't listened to it though.
Unpleasant. I didn't like it and don't think I'll ever listen to it again.
mmm its alright. will probably be forgotten by...wait what album were we talking about?
This ambitious merging of frenzied tribal African rhythms and rituals, syncopated 'dub' beats, neoclassical elements, chamber music, heavy-metal riffs and church-operatic choirs in many ways recalls Public Image Limited's 'Flowers Of Romance' and Canterbury-style prog rock. But that description in itself does not do this brilliant work justice. Much of the album is dominated by the superb drumming of George Barnett allied to the counterpoint of keyboardist Sophie Sleigh-Johnson. This album works as an intricate puzzle. It is a genre of music that is yet to be given a name. But already its timeless 'classic' status is assured.
