Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 11% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 77.5/100, a mean average of 77.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 13.7.

people think they're cool and hip by dissing this band...they're a lot of fun....diss music you don't like, don't be a groupthinking moron
One of the best ever bands
One of the first, and one of the very best, prog rockers. I had the great fortune to see them in concert in Irvine several years ago, and was totally blown away. Keith Emerson and his piano destruction act were awesome. Karn Evil 9 in all its variations is a true masterpiece of the genre.
Arty, elaborate, and ambitious, ELP can be a tough take for a lot of folks. But when it comes to classic prog, they are rightfully one of the true standard bearers. Keith Emerson is probably the most virtuoso of all rock's keyboard players, but his virtuosity is used to expand the music, not limit it.
Boy I loved ELP when I was 16. Now I'm a ripe 18, their pretentiousness has become rather painfully obvious. That said, when they're good they're freakin' great - and they were fairly often. But they seemed intent on sabotaging their records with at least one unnecessary track of instrumental noodling which stops any of them being truly great. The least offensive in that regard is probably Tarkus. That said, all first four albums are definitely worth listening, but don't stray too far from the skip button - you may need it. P.S. RIP Emerson and Lake, talented buggers to say the least.
Cheesy and very pompous, but in a very good way. A very proggy way. They are great, no has great has some of their peers, but great anyway.
ELP is a band that become famous for being one of the first prominent "supergroup" which also blends their Prog Music with Classical music. But they also become infamous for being called as one of the cause of Prog's decline in trend with their lesser albums such the live album "Welcome Back My Friends.." and especially Love Beach.
Anyway, Brain Salad Surgery -along with the gargantuan Karn Evil 9- is a nice effort on the lavish style of Prog music. :D
WHY couldn't they come up with a better name? Whenever I hear that title, i think of lawyers of something. Great band though.
A great progressive rock band. It's a pity that they were so reviled.
Personally, I don't see the problem with ELP. Sure, they're a LITTLE cheesy, but nothing compared to today's power metal bands. Tarkus was an amazing epic.
