An enigma. How does a band so good fall so far? The Blue Album and Pinkerton were perfect. The green Album and Maladroit were good. The rest has been insultingly bad.
Great first two albums, absolute crap after that.
Nah, it's reality.
@An Outlaw, Are you on drugs mate?

You can pretty much disregard this band since 96. So sad they had to go down the tubes.
I'll go so far as to say that their first four albums are all quite great, the first two especially. There was a slight resurgence with Red Album, which is kind of underrated (especially when you consider that "Greatest Man That Ever Lived" has the same genius behind it that made those first two records so magical,) but after that, it all went to hell. So, as one of the most consistently disappointing groups of all time, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. These guys are talented. Rivers Cuomo is a really great songwriter, and these guys have a sound that is as distinct as any rock group could hope for, and that's got to count for something.
Started out close to perfect, but after releasing Pinkerton, they became a slightly above average power pop band.
If we judge a band by only it's best works, than Weezer is not only one of the best bands of the 90's, but also easily one of the best ever. If we have to take the entire body of work into account, they get bumped down a lot, especially thanks to Make Believe. However, I go with first option, not the second, when judging bands. Their debut was incredible power pop that wore it's emotions on its sleeve Pinkerton was sometimes a little too personal, at the point of extreme awkwardness, but was great because of this awkward directness. Weezer's story is one of the saddest in music because of how great they started out and now they've fallen into this abyss that they can't seem to escape from.
2 great albums, 2 decent albums, the rest are trend-chasing mediocrity.
